Post-it Note poetry – Too heavy Peter’s mantle

Today I return to Adelaide Crapsey’s American Cinquain.  Still i tried to be a bit stricter with meter.  Tried to get it to conform to:

  • the 1, 2, 3, 4, 1 stress pattern
  • and the 2, 4, 6, 8 ,2 syllable pattern.

A pope

has resigned. Too

heavy Peter’s mantle.

Too loud, the silent suffering of

children

This poem strikes such a poignant and barbed commentary, but it is beautiful. I work in a Catholic school so it will be interesting to see the perspective as it gathers momentum towards Easter.

Yes not very fond of this pope or the last for that matter :) . I used to work for Catholic Ed (same school I studied at as a matter of fact) it will be interesting to see if they go with a Black pope, which would make them more progressive than some liberal democracies on the subject of race.

I feel as though the body of the church has been greatly let down by the head. My school employed openly gay teachers for example, but the the RCC is not a democracy is it.
