The Ballad of Doctor Who

I have some distant memories of the first “concert” I attended when I was about 8 or 9. I have been trying to remember the band, they played lots of old tunes like the Wild Colonial Boy and Bound for Botany Bay. I think the band was Bullamakanka and while searching the interwebs I came across this

you can thank me later.

Dr Who 50th Anniversary Special going 3D

View the story "Dr Who 50th Anniversary in 3D" on StorifyDr Who 50th Anniversary in 3DWhen technology takes precedence over story, is it best to be wary?Storified by SeandBlogonaut· Mon, Feb 11 2013 15:52:40According to UK newspaper the guardian, this years Dr Who special is going to be filmed in 3D:Doctor Who goes 3D for 50th birthdayThe Time Lord is accustomed to travelling through space and time, but BBC1's Doctor Who will have an added dimension for its 50th-anniver...

I must say that I am a little underwhelmed. For me, 3D really doesn’t improve the viewing experience. I’d rather they spent the money on something else, an extra couple of episodes perhaps.

Dr Who who for me, has always been about good story. If the story is good it can make you forget about the fishing line holding the planet suspended in space.

And it appears that quiet a few others share similar feelings:Dr Who's 50th Anniversary episode will be screened in 3D. I am, officially, no longer interested.Peter BallDr Who's 50th anniversary special is going to be in 3D? *sigh*Danielle Dr Who in 3D what the fuck is the world coming too? UrhghghhhNatalie KennaBBC (that are apparently skint) to make Dr Who 3D special - for the few hundred people that have a 3D tv. That's good use of public funds!Anthony CuttThe Dr Who 3D is incredible. You can almost reach out & touch the disappointment that they just don't seem to be making it for you anymoreRichard SandlingNoooooooo, not Dr Who in 3D, noooooo. Rubber Hartnell & Troughton heads floating at the screen is the only thing that can make that news unshit.JamesIt will still be available in 2D of course which is good for those in the general population that are vision impaired and can't process 3D.

So does this news excite you as a Who fan?

Verity! Episode 1 – The Snowmen

Episode one has arrived. How did it go? Well pretty damn good for a first episode. Sometimes a show needs a bit of settling in before it hits its stride, but these women of Who, these Mistresses of Time have got their game on.

Now if I can only differentiate the American accents. No matter.

The discussion on Moffat’s Christmas special was good and the breadth of knowledge and experience in the team meant that I got an inkling for tracking down some some Troughton era stories.

New to Dr Who podcasts - Verity Episode 0

The women of the Verity podcast have got together and release a pre season podcast. An introduction to the varied bunch of female Who fans that will be bringing a diverse conversation about Who to our eardrums.

As they relate their Journey to Who Fandom in this podcast I am reminded of my discussion with Helen Merrick on the diversity of women in science fiction history.

The participants in the podcast come from vastly different who backgrounds. From those who only started with New Who, to those who have been watching since the black and white days – whose mothers took them along to fan conventions or meet ups.

It looks to be a promising show. The first official cast is going to discuss the Christmas special and I think there’s enough dissenting opinion/ varied positions that it will be a good crunchy discussion.
