NecroScope Closes

necroscope_FBThe news came out Monday that Necroscope, the Australian Zombie Review Blog had closed:

NecroScope Closes: It is with great regret that we announce the official closure of NecroScope: the Australian Zombie Review Blog.
Unfortunately, of late, the various personal commitments of the staff and management of NecroScope have precluded the regular updating of the site, despite the constant (and...

I am not a Zombie Fanatic, but I enjoy a good zombie film, Undead, the Australian title and Shaun of the Dead come immediately to mind.  But every time a site like this falls by the wayside it’s a little sad.  These are Fan run things by girls and guys like me who do it for the fun, who provide entertaining Free content a review or a heads up.  It’s largely a thankless job but its one that adds value to the community

Vale NecroScope.

I'm not familiar with this site and am definitely no zombie fan, but I agree with you it is sad when a site that has provided enjoyment closes. Sometimes it's just another book blog, plenty more, but if you followed the site you knew the person running it, whether or not you'd met them. Mostly, the book sites that close are due to burnout. One book blogger said to me,"it's like a job." her site is still open, but she isn't reviewing at this stage, just talking about her writing troubles. And that's another thing. You get to wondering why you're reviewing other people's books when you should be focusing on writing your own. It's sadly easy to tell when someone is about to drop off the blogosphere. :-(

Ah, well. I can't supply you with news of the latest zombie movie, Sean, but I have no current plans to drop off. I need the publicity and the free books for my library. :-)

I had read it for reviews a couple of times recently. Yes it does feel like a job sometimes, a labour of love. Yes its a great distraction from writing too :)

Do you work in a govt school hence the lack of fund for the library?

Spot on! I do work in a government school and was horrified in May last year when I was suddenly informed my budget had been cut to $3000 and I had nearly spent it. This in a school which runs a major literacy program! So I do lots of things as teacher-librarian and publicise them in hopes of embarrassing the person who made the decision. No such luck. He brags about them. :-( Today I'm meeting three of my lovely students who badly wanted to meet Claudia Gray and weren't allowed into the city with no adult supervision, till I said I'd meet them and go to Dymock's with them. Should be good, and I will snap a pic or two for the school.

We have a joint community/school library and the council is quite good with funding it. We'd have about 1500 in the community and 120 at the school and have about well lets just say you'd die if you heard what our budget was
