Library Loot October 27 to November 2

This week saw my first foray into borrowing and downloading audiobooks from the Yarra Plenty Regional Library, my first choice for reasons of file size as much as subject matter is

The Dark Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft, Vol. 1: The Dunwich Horror & Call Of Cthulhu

It's narrated by Wayne June who has a voice like he's swallowed razor blades with a scotch chaser.

My other find for the week was an interlibrary loan from my local community library; Stephen King’s, On Writing.

Both cool finds, I agree. I was very excited to find an audio book of Stephen King's "LT's Theory of Pets" which we listened to on a recent road trip read by Stephen King himself. Gold :)

I think I am rediscovering King as a writer. I wouldn't go near him as a teen. I did however love the movies made from his books.

On Writing is one of the best books ever written on the craft of writing. If you look through my booklists, you'll see that I re-read it every few years (along with only two other very select books!)

I was actually considering buying it in paperback (it was under $10 on BD). I like his sense of humor ie 3 forewords :)

LOL! Is June's voice distracting because of it?--like you want to smack him on the back or offer him a lozenge or is his voice more compelling because of it?

It took a little getting used to but it does add a certain ambiance. I finished Salem's lot and did like it. I thought i detected some Cthulhu-esque influence in the flashback at the end as well.

My library still seems to be having some problems with their digital audiobook lending system. Hopefully they'll get all the kinks worked out soon! I'm rather jealous of those, like you, who can borrow with ease.

I've heard great things about On Writing. I hope it will live up to the hype!

I am secretly fearful that the one library I can borrow from will workout I don't reside in their state( though that doesn't seem to be a requirement).
