Kindred–Aboriginal SciFi film

H/T Mark Webb for the find

You can support this film at Indigogo.

Edit:  One of my Twitter peeps brought up a point about Cultural appropriation and how much Aboriginal involvement there is in the project outside of casting Aboriginal people.  There isn’t any information that I can see suggesting a cultural liaison has been sought.

That's a good point about cultural appropriation. I should have thought more about that myself. I've written off to the people organising the film to ask about their approach.

The creators of the film have responded to questions about cultural sensitivity (and appropriation) through a blog post on the Indigogo reference page. For example they are appointing an Aboriginal cultural liaison to work with the Worora tribe to ensure that the movie doesn't offend or misrepresent their stories.

I think in summary this is a film based on Aboriginal myth starring Aboriginal actors, but not necessarily created by Aboriginal people. People thinking about donating should probably keep that in mind.

For myself, I feel that as long as it has the blessing of the relevant Aboriginal peoples then anything that promotes Aboriginal culture is good, especially in the speculative fiction field. I've struggled to find many Aboriginal voices in the spec fic community.

That's good news then. Yeah I'd be happy if it has the blessing of those whose story it is. Thanks for following up and posting the link here.
