The Future is Here–Google Goggles

This is ever so scary and great writing material.  Indeed I wrote a short story a couple of years ago that had this sort of feature imbedded into optical implants (I don’t think its a particularly novel idea).

My concern is what sort of effect this has on brain development.  When we stop using our brain to store information- by which I mean the practise and development of encoding and retrieving info – what do we lose?

I already fight a losing battle with teaching kids research skills.

Fortunately I already don't use my brain to store information, so the goggles should only be an improvement. But outside my personal experience, yes I agree there may be some danger.

Now if they'd only get on with inventing my flying car…

I have come across students who cant use a dictionary because they have been exposed to electronic dictionaries on ipods. =/
Ouch - when the now-generation start classifying things like "using a dictionary" as being old fogey behaviour, I start to feel very old.
